heirloom seed-saving and medicinal herb growing in the heart of the western cape, south africa
our collection of open-pollinated heirloom seeds.
reconnecting with nature through gardening.
in an increasingly fast-paced modernising world, it is easy to lose sight of what is truly important. slowly but surely, we are losing our connection to the earth, to the food we eat, to the people around us. trading convenience for health, we have forgotten what it means to live with the land.
hathaway offers you a return to nature. planting your own seeds and growing your own food, to bring you back in to a state of communion with the natural world. to go against the grain, and choose a new way of life that revolves around sustainability, and connection.

at hathaway farm, we invite you to slow down, smell the roses, and get your hands dirty in the soil.
The Gravel Garden is our working seed collection at hathaway farm — a living archive of heirloom vegetables, flowers, and medicinal herbs that has been continually nurtured and refined for nearly 20 years.
at our farm, we believe in the power of the grower, that anybody should be be able to grow their own food, and their own medicine. the seeds at hathaway are therefore open-pollinated varieties you can grow, harvest, and save again yourself — building your own seed story season after season. all it takes is one little envelope filled with seeds.
farm-grown, with love.
at hathaway, we believe in in regenerative and functional use of the land, and a major aspect of this is growing our own medicine.
made from totally organic herbal plants grown right from our farm, the remedies we make are designed to bring balance to the mind and heal the body, in a natural and gentle way.
our seeds are for anyone who wants to reconnect with the earth and grow their own food, flowers, and medicinal plants. they’re perfect for home gardeners, beginners, and experienced growers alike — anyone who values flavour, biodiversity, and the satisfaction of planting, nurturing, and harvesting from their own garden. if you care about preserving heirloom varieties and living closer to nature, these seeds are for you.
planting times vary by crop and climate. each product page includes a short growing guide to help you get started, which can be accessed by the QR code on the back of every seed envelope.
though not certified, we grow using organic and regenerative practices, without any synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
absolutely. many of our varieties are easy to grow and well suited to home gardens. we include simple growing guides to help you along the way.
the majority of our plants are grown by us and our small team at hathaway farm, with love and totally organic and regenerative practices. as seeds are subject to seasonal availability, we also trade and swap with other local growers and reputable seed sellers to ensure that all our seeds are of excellent quality, and will always be completely open-pollinated and non-GMO.
